Head of Ukrainian diplomacy Andrij Sybiha called on NATO countries to usage their air defence to capture Russian drones and missiles over Ukraine's territory. The appeal followed a nightly invasion of Polish airspace by Russian drones during a massive attack on Ukraine.
"This situation shows that it is yet essential to decide to let the usage of the partners' air defence capabilities in neighbouring countries to capture drones and missiles in Ukraine's airspace, including those that are approaching NATO borders" - wrote Sybiha on platform X.
Escalation Warning
The minister warned that Russia's leader Vladimir Putin continues to escalate, grow his war and test the West. "The longer he no longer meets a force-based response, the more aggressive he becomes. The weak reaction now will provoke Russia even more, and then Russian missiles and drones will fly even further into Europe" - stressed the chief of Ukrainian diplomacy.
According to Sybiha, Russian drones entering Polish airspace show that Putin's sense of impunity continues to grow. This was due to the fact that he was not decently punished for his earlier crimes.
Request for stronger action
"Ukraine has long suggested specified a step. It must be undertaken for collective safety reasons" - said the Minister of abroad Affairs. It is besides an appeal to partners to urgently strengthen Ukrainian air defence and better protection against the increasing number of Russian drones and missiles.
The head of the MFA stated that sanctions against Russia must be tightened immediately. In his opinion, Putin will only take peace talks seriously if he faces serious transatlantic pressure.
Night attack on Ukraine
Russia carried out another massive attack on Ukraine utilizing rockets and drones from Tuesday to Wednesday, as reported by the Ukrainian Air Force. An anti-aircraft alert was announced throughout the country, including in the western part of the border with Poland.
"Russian war device must be stopped and this can only happen thanks to strength, not weakness" - added Sybiha. During the night attack, Polish airspace was repeatedly affected by drones.
Polish reaction
The Polish Operations Command of Types of Armed Forces has launched procedures to guarantee the safety of the Polish airspace. Deputy Prime Minister and head of MON Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz reported that drones that could have posed a threat were shot down.
The incidental highlights the increasing threat to NATO countries from the conflict in Ukraine. The Ukrainian minister again called for decisive action in the face of Russian aggression.
