President Karol Nawrocki sent a taxation to the Constitutional Court on excess profits of fuel companies, and the government lost over 4 billion zlotys that he wanted to pump into lower prices at stations. Donald Tusk talks about "Nawrock's prices". The palace responds that it is the Prime Minister who inducts fuel costs, and reminds him of the infirmary VIP lounges.

Tax which went to the Court

On Friday 24 July, president Nawrocki sent a bill to the Constitutional Court, under preventive control, introducing a taxation on excess profits of fuel manufacturers and importers. The head of state questioned the compliance with the prohibition of retroactive action. According to the President, the tribute would cover profits earned before the bill entered into force, and this violates 1 of the basic principles of the legal order.

The decision blocked the influence that the government was counting on. It is over 4 billion zlotys, which Donald Tusk's office intended to devote to maintaining lower prices on stations.

CPN versus CKN

The Prime Minister responded on Monday, during a conference in the Deaf. "The harm to these over PLN 4 billion, due to the fact that we have truly allocated them to lower fuel prices," said the head of government. In social media, he went further and coined the slogan: we had CPN, i.e. Paliv Prices lower, and Karol Nawrocki gave the Poles CKN, Karol Nawrocki Prices.

The government appealed to its own program from late March. "Prices of Fuel Lower" reduced the VAT on fuel to 8 percent and reduced excise work to an EU minimum. The cost of this intervention for the budget reached around PLN 4.7 billion. In the communicative of the Civic Coalition, the fresh tribute from the corporations was to finance an extension of this relief.

Riposta from the Palace

The President's office did not leave the attack unanswered. spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz accused the Prime Minister of misleading the public. As he stated, the government is pushing a taxation increase, which would inactive translate into higher prices at stations, due to the fact that the taxation costs of the companies would be passed on to drivers. This argument changes the optics of the full dispute. Both sides claim to be defending the wallet of the fuelling Pole, and each accusing the another of its depletion.

The President's spokesperson did not halt at economics. The Prime Minister proposed "a minute of remainder in 1 of the VIP infirmary lounges", adding that the government has " rather quite a few them".

Shadow of VIP lounges

This is simply a mention to the loud case of the Warsaw confederate Hospital. It is simply a charge that politicians of the Civic Coalition and their families were to be admitted to the emergency ward outside of order. The ultimate Audit Office confirmed the existence of a separate room, described as a "bed room", in which there were no beds, but there were permanent armchairs, table, tv and kitchenette.

The D.A. is investigating whether a patient admission strategy based on non-medical reasons, contrary to the rules of triage, has been created in the facility. The persons afraid stay at the phase of the charges, not the judgments. The president of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski denied that the VIP "saloon" existed at all. For the presidential camp, however, the scandal has become a convenient counterargument towards the government, which speaks of the concern of the average citizen.

Who's gonna pay with the distributor?

The dispute is more serious than a war on passwords. In the background, the question is whether the State can levy a taxation on profits made in the past and whether fuel prices should be kept artificially, at the expense of the budget. The legal organization will now be assessed by the Constitutional Court. The economical account, regardless of the sentence, will be sent to the drivers anyway. They'll see him either on a pylon by the station or in a budget gap individual will gotta patch up someday.
