The title of this edition "Last Years of Poland in Columns" is ambiguous. The survey includes my column from the last fewer years concerning Poland, Polish politics and the economy. In this sense, the title refers to the last years, or past years. But this title may besides propose that these are the last years of Poland, Poland we knew, in which we lived, Poland free and sovereign. These columns were written just to prevent specified a script from materialising. They were written to aid diagnose threats to prevent them. Prevent as much as a written word can be an effective weapon in situations of historical change and threat.
When did my writing start? I am an engineer, I graduated from the University of Technology and did not find myself a mention to journalism or any another form of writing. The turning point for certain was April 10, 2010 – National Tragedy close Smolensk. Smolensk – whether we realize it or not – changed us all, changed each of us. For modern generations it is the filter that planet War II was for our parents and grandparents. No 1 after the war was the same man as before the war. besides in Smolensk no 1 was who he was before Smolensk. any have changed to better, any have unfortunately changed to worse. Yes, that was the first time I felt the request to express my thoughts through the written word. Therefore, at the beginning of this collection of columns, I place "The Fog", a short poem that I wrote in April 2010.
My first lyrics were about what happened in Smolensk and what happened in Smolensk. These texts were informative and form of emails sent to family, friends and acquaintances. The innate request for fact was at the root of them because, as the author and the implacable enemy of communism claimed, Józef Mackiewicz: "Only fact is interesting". This search for fact shortly turned out to be revealing – any of my friends or friends considered themselves my perfect opponents and wished to break their contacts. Jarosław Marek Rymkiewicz wrote prophetic words: “What divided us – it will no longer stick.” The increasing crack of Polish society was supported not only by lies, called modern fake news, but besides by attempts at false search for symmetry. The search for symmetry in the name of the misconceptiond saying that “the fact lies in the middle.” There's a large space between fact and center that you can't underestimate. This space is simply a dream field for manipulation.
That is why in time my private news emails began to take more publicistic forms. At the beginning, this was manifested in respective open letters addressed to circumstantial recipients, but which are besides an effort to make public mention to the positions and interpretations presented by them, which in my opinion were in a space that could be called manipulation. 4 of these open letters were included at the outset of this survey to be an introduction to the right part, or column. On this occasion it is worth mentioning that in the case of a letter opened to Ringier Axel Springer Polska I have received answers from the Editor of the Chief Portal Onet. Despite the correspondence and the factual exchange of arguments, we remained in our positions. The 4th letter “Woman, girl, woman” had a wide scope of addressees and was a kind of manifesto, a cry for repentance. Over the years, even though the United Right took over, I felt a increasing lie in the public space and, consequently, a increasing threat to the Polish statehood. I expressed this in the poem “Poland under the Cross”, ending with a prayer cry “that Poland under the Cross by your side may last forever in spite of the evil”. In April 2021, on the eleventh anniversary of the Smolensk tragedy, my text “Progress” went to the 2010 Solidarity Drafting and was published on www.solidarni2010. pl. From that minute on, my texts took the form of columns published on the portal and week after week referred to current events in the country and in the world. Events that determined Poland's destiny step by step, the destiny of all of us. Felietons are a kind of fixture of these events, so I proposed publishing them chronologically, year after year, period after month, just as our lives in Poland have run in fresh years.
