Under the guidance of American instructors from M.I.C. Industries, bomb squads from the 2nd Engineering Regiment learn how to operate the eventual Building Machine. The American strategy of fast and economical construction – called a mobile mill – allows to build a 900 sqm object from steel prefabricates in a week. The bomb squad training takes place at the military Łojewo centre.
In January this year, the military bought 2 from the American company M.I.C. Industries Ultimate Building device Systems (UBM). It was decided that the solution, consisting of steel forming machines (UBM-240, MIC-163, UBM-120) and specialized tools to combine them together, would go to soldiers of the 2nd Engineering Regiment in Inowrocław and 16th Airport Repair Battalion in Jarocin.
First batch of elements UBM reached Inowrocław in early August And from that point on, the Kujaw bomb squad began learning how to usage the machine. – The training cycle began with theoretical classes, during which instructors from M.I.C. Industries taught us to build individual machines that are part of the UBM system. Later we learned how with their aid various types of buildings are erected – says por. First task: garage for UBM
In mid-October, the second part of the training, or applicable learning to usage UBM technology, began at the training centre. The end consequence is simply a mention building, or model building, erected by soldiers. At the same time, the conclusions gathered during this task, including the amount of material used, the time spent on construction work and the number of soldiers involved, will be utilized to make guidelines for engineering sub-chapters.
Since the building is to stay permanently on the ground, as a retention facility where the UBM strategy will be stored, the construction work is carried out under the supervision of the local regional infrastructure management.
Easy and fast
Soldiers from the 2nd Engineering Regiment, who learn UBM service in Loyev, emphasize that this technology allows to build warehouses, warehouses or shelters at an express pace. – After the rotation is installed, we enter the data of the component into the computer, including its length, which we want to produce. Then the device starts bending the material – says Michał Szcześniak, UBM operator – The production of 3 elements, which then merges into a module and sets on foundations, takes respective minutes – he comments.
As the US instructors emphasize, the most hard minute is together on the ground elements in the module. It is essential to take peculiar care not to put clothes or uniform in the mode of the presser. Another hard task is to lay the module on the foundations. In this case, by lifting it up, for example, you can hitch it to the ground and bend the tin structure.
The next phase of construction is the phase erstwhile soldiers gotta go up (tops) the building being built to connect the modules together. This minute seems very dangerous. However, instructors emphasize that thanks to specially designed harnesses that are attached to peculiar clamps on modules, the work is completely safe.
The building will be about 9 metres high, 19 metres long and 20 metres wide. It will be erected on concrete foundations. Although, as the instructors emphasize, UBM buildings can be built without foundation if necessary.
Inowrocław bomb squad training will proceed until mid-November.
