US President Donald Trump has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to join a "Peace Council" for Gaza that will oversee the region's reconstruction as international efforts continue to maintain the ceasefire in the region. Putin is currently reviewing the proposal before making a final decision.

Trump extended the invitation through diplomatic channels to around 60 countries.

Trump is set to chair the executive board of what is also being referred to as the "Board of Peace". Permanent membership comes with a price tag of $1bn (£747 million).

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Putin "received an invitation through diplomatic channels to join this Peace Council". He added: "At the moment, we are studying all the details of this proposal and hope to have contacts with the American side to clarify all the nuances."
