Over 1,000 people attended the first debate “Be Ready! Before there are sirens in Krakow” about the fresh civilian protection strategy of the city. Due to the large interest of the organizers, they had to change the area to twice as big! All seats were taken in the audience, even though Poland played with Austria on Euro2024 that evening.

Kraków as the first city in the country...

...started specified a broad discussion on civilian protection. The Auditorium Maximum Jagiellonian University has made concrete declarations on the audit of urban shelters and applicable trainings with instructions on how to behave in an emergency situation.

On invitation Dr. Alexander Miszalski, president of the City of Krakow, James Koska, the president of the City Council of Krakow and Kazimierz Barczyk, The president of the Association of Municipalities and Countys of Małopolska took part in the debate with outstanding experts:

– Jacek Bartosiak – the founder of Strategy&Future

– Marek Wake up – erstwhile Advisor to the Chief of Chancellery of the Prime Minister of Ministers of the Minister of National Defence

– General Dr. Mieczysław Bieniek – erstwhile NATO Deputy Commander for Transformation

– General defends Edward Puszka – erstwhile Operation Commander of the Armed Forces.

The invited guests were surprised...

...the presence of so many people who have decided to participate “live” in the debate on civilian defence not only in Krakow, but in the full country.

I've never attended meetings on specified hard topics with specified a large audience.. That's impressive.commented Jacek Bartosiak.

Turnout doesn't surprise me becauseEveryone asks themselves present what to do in case of danger. How to behave, where to hide? I think there are circumstantial answers to these questions says Jakub Kosek, president of the Krakow City Council. – After this meeting, we request to do 3 things first: first we request to review all the procedures, second we request to review the infrastructure, and 3rd we request to prepare and distribute materials with circumstantial instructions, which have already been discussed by the debate participants.

General Mieczysław Bieniekhe mentioned about the forts we have in Krakow nearly forty. Many of them could become shelters.

– In addition to forts, we besides have respective twelve shelters in the city. We have quite a few large-area facilities with garages. We request to check which of these objects can withstand a 500-pound bomb strike.

In the preparation of the draft instructions for action not only in the event of war, but besides another threats and cataclysms took part, among others. Mark Wake Up and Strategy&Future.

Take an example from our allies. For example, Swedish people have long been prepared to last the first 7 days of war or another threats. We've got a full lot going on. We can't number on government, local governments to do anything for us. We request to be prepared, and present we deficiency even basic information to last without phones, electricity, communications, shops. We hope that the publication prepared by us will be supplemented after subsequent meetings and debates with residents. As you can see from the turnout, the subject of the debate has attracted large interest from the inhabitants, especially the ladies, who, as is known, are guarding the home fire.

The immense function of women...

...in preparing the country's civilian defence, he besides stressed Jacek Bartosiak.

– There's a female advantage in the courtroom today. A definite advantage. I think that specified a large presence of women is due to the fact that, in civilian defence, the point of gravity and in general the state's resilience system, understood in terms of civilian protection, are women and their attitude, above all mental, to all of us.

According to experts participating in the debate, civilian defence of the country is equally crucial and possibly more crucial than this military. The well-organised function is simply a deterrent. So we must act present before it is besides late.

He emphasized it. General Edward Puszka.Personally, I believe that our possible opponent will not decide to attack any of the countries in NATO, but as a military, I know that we should always be prepared for the worst variant.

The experts invited to the debate number on much to change after the Sejm passed the civilian Protection and Defence Act, which our government is presently working on.

In Poland, people, NGOs or companies active in public-private partnerships will neglect to build the civilian protection strategy of the country. – convinces Marek Wake Up.

The debate has prepared...

...The Association of Municipalities and Countys of Małopolska together with the City of Kraków.

The subject is crucial adequate that present I invitation residents of Krakow to participate in further, more applicable meetings as part of our programme “Be ready! Before the sirens roar in Krakow.” Let us be prepared, let us be vigilant! – says Kazimierz Barczyk, president of the Association of Municipalities and Countys of Małopolska.
