Devil – bad or good?

If it hadn't been for Eric Lubos's acting, if it hadn't been for the veterans of GROM who prepared him perfectly for the role, if it hadn't been for the cast of the second plan with Master Krzysztof Stroinski at the head, had it not been for the climate of Tarnowskie Mountains, the hometown of Lubosa... specified a “if” would be a long time, and all this would show why the “devil” would not pass by. Although it seems to be sensational entertainment, how many – in this case appearances confuse!

The motive of a soldier returning home from war is for cinema 1 of the archetypal themes – common to many movie genres. due to the fact that it may as well be the beginning of a western, melodrama, socially active cinema or thriller. callback John Ford's Western "Seekers" (1956), Anthony Minghell's melodrama "Hounds of Hope" (2003), Michael Cimino's drama "The Deer Hunter" (1978) or classified as Ted Kotcheff's sensational movie "Rambo: The First Blood" (1982). It would be possible to list titles from different corners of the planet (although Russian ‘Brother’ of Alexey Balabanov in 1997), from different eras and movie shelves, from the highest ones, where the acclaimed masterpieces stand, to the lowest ones with the alleged Class B cinema. But even in the case of amusement cinema, various “gunfires”, the motive of a veteran struggling with the trauma of war gives them a dramatic scratch (for example, the next sequel “Rambo”) ...

There are no people who are happy from war. It was said and said often: "He was fortunate due to the fact that he survived, he did not become crippled, and sometimes he was not even scratched with a bullet erstwhile he died around so many, so many were wounded"... But it was forgotten and inactive forgotten – despite advances in medicine, psychology and another teachings – that war hurts not only the body but besides the soul of man... And these wounds are frequently irreparable. Let me make a individual digression: in conversation with planet War II veterans – age people and at the end of their lives – many have admitted that the war is inactive surviving in dreams, and these are nightmares that are hard to escape during the day...

RECLAMA

From Nirvana to Afghanistan

It is besides frequently claimed that a soldier returning from war is simply a “touching bomb”. Many veterans, incapable to find themselves in the alleged average reality, go incorrect – gangster, drug addict or “only” homelessness or home violence... Many, fleeing from themselves, become social outcasts of their own choice, freaks increasing somewhere in the Bieszczad woods or another remnants – far distant from people, but only with animals and a faithful dog who understands... This is the hero played by Eric Lubos Maximilian “Devil” Achtelik, a commando – an operator, as it is present – with missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. He lives in a hut in the mediate of a forest by the lake with a faithful dog. His erstwhile commander (Aleksandra Popławska), urges him to return to the service. "The Devil" consistently refuses and refuses to decision from his loneliness until he learns of his father's funeral...

Eryk Lubos has already played “missionaries” (Sgt. Stefan Zientecki “The Robber” in the 2012 series “Afghan Mission”), besides played a function as a veteran incapable to cope with the war trauma (Eryk in the wrongly underestimated by critics of the drama of Jan Jakub Kolski “Kill the Beaver”, besides from 2012) and erstwhile commando (Cher. Czesław Rak in the series “In the rhythm of the heart”) played many unruly outsiders (although Boris “Kosa” Kosiński – MMA player in “Underdog” from 2019). surely the motivation for casting him in these roles is the perception of Lubos – as it is termed in the movie planet – as a characteristic actor. In cinematography, appearance, aparity has always been a large asset, and here nature has given Lubos specified peculiar features generously, but it is only a contribution to the existence in the planet of tenth music. Without a doubt, Erik Lubos is an outstanding actor, which in "Diable" full proves.
The protagonist of “Devil” is simply a veteran peculiar unit, experiencing not only a war trauma, but besides memories of a childhood drama. He is simply a fan of stone music (before the army he played bass in the grunge band – screenwriter Robert Ziębiński here captured the experience of the 1970s – among which the author of this review includes – the commando becomes the grunge musician, as Jason Everman became the erstwhile guitarist of the celebrated Nirvana Kurt Cobain). He is undoubtedly a delicate and faithful man to the honorary code of the Polish Army (in the end, this was shown without the "descending" pathos).

At the same time, he remains a highly trained commando who can, erstwhile forced to do so, kill him. In combat scenes, you can see that Lubos has been trained with GROM instructors. It makes me want to scream: finally! Finally, in the Polish sensational movie with elements of the war drama, 1 can see a professionally implemented fight – both with different types of weapons and even (example of the final scene of the confrontation with “The Cold” – very good Karol Bernacki). The above shows that the hero played by Lubos is made of paradoxes – it is easy to oversell, lose balance and fall into unintentional caricaturity. Lubos avoids this, his “Devil” in all dimension is human. I am not afraid to compose that this is 1 of the best acting creations I have seen in Polish cinema in fresh years.

The land of childhood is hidden by shadows

There is another crucial component that affects the acting creation of Eric Lubos: the place where the action takes place and where the movie was made: Tarnowskie Góra – the actor's hometown. Lubos, like his hero, Maximilian Achtelik, grew up in Tarnowskie Mountains. Not accidentally at the wake after his father's ceremony he orders a rotation and dumplings – he wants to feel Silesian flavors again after 20 years. Lubos besides played bass in a stone band and knows all the corners of Tarnowskie Mountains and surrounding areas (the key for the game is the quarry “Bobrownik” called Dolomites truly exists). So it is besides a movie covering autobiographical elements and it is yet a movie about the Polish state – in a good and bad sense of the term. Provinces that do not pretend to be little covered by outdoors and corners of Warsaw, Krakow or Wrocław.

At erstwhile it must be admitted that there are besides Tarnowskie Góra climatically filmed – the city is 1 of the “heroes” of the film. He just feels that here is the “prodigal son” coming home; unfortunately, bad people take distant his anticipation of reconciliation with his father – and any of the bad ones are erstwhile friends from the years of childhood and youth, even his bandmate... And then the prodigal boy turns into a vigilante, but here you gotta put a dot and encourage you to visit the cinema. It can besides be added that the motive of the vigilante is old as Greek mythology, bible and Hollywood, but in the realities of the Polish state and the criminal underground connected by channels to the heights of power – inactive has the power to awaken unfunny reflections... 1 can besides see the cry again: that finally, manager Błażej Jankowiak built his movie on a solid screenplay by Robert Ziębiński, and the same 1 based on his excellent book of the same title.

Finally, it is worth waiting in the cinema for the ending credits and reading the information that appears after them. Then you will besides full realize the meaning and transmission of the film. "The devil remains a good man, even though he experiences interior hell. You can't escape a war, so you gotta fight...
