Part of allied cooperation with NATO military forces were joint exercises of soldiers of the 4th Warmia-Masurian Territorial Defence Brigade and the British from the Battalion conflict Group eFP in Ełk. Tactics and actions in the city were trained. The territorials from this brigade besides took part in exercises preparing to respond to the risks associated with large forest fires.

WOT exercises with firefighters
This is not the only training in which 4 W-MBOT soldiers took part recently. 44 Light Infantry Battalion of this brigade, along with a company of bomb squads, participated in training to respond to threats associated with large-area fires. The territorials trained there together with professional firefighters and friends from the Volunteer Fire Service from the Ełtsky and Olecki districts, foresters and youth from uniform classes. Co-ordinated cooperation between the services has been improved, both in the area of fire extinguishing and securing the area, evacuation of persons and assistance to victims.
The exercise script was divided into respective threads. The first and most crucial was the occurrence at the same time of respective fires sparked intentionally by a man who turned into a large-surface forest fire.
Firefighting operations were conducted by state troops and volunteer fire brigades. A State Forest chopper was besides utilized to extinguish the fire. At the same time, due to the opacity of the area, it was essential to evacuate by motorboats of a group of young people who were in the danger zone. At the same time, officers of the Ełk territory Police Command were pursuing the arsonist. They were assisted by appropriately trained dogs and drones from the State Forests. In these actions, the police were besides supported by territorialists.
According to soldiers 4 W-MBOT, their participation in the exercises confirmed the crucial function of specified armed forces in the crisis consequence strategy and the readiness to support rescue and protective actions in situations of real threats.
