Meanwhile, on Sunday, US president Donald Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, announced crucial advancement in negotiations with Russia regarding future peace in Ukraine.

According to Witkoff, Vladimir Putin agreed to include a safeguard clause in the agreement Ukraine is protected in accordance with Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which obliges NATO members to defend each other.

As Witkoff explained, this proposal constitutes a compromise to circumvent Russian request that Ukraine should never become a NATO member.

Ukraine is to get safety guarantees

– Putin made it clear that Ukraine's accession to NATO was a red line. That is why we talked about the anticipation of offering Ukraine safety guarantees, which act like Article 5, without actual NATO membership – he explained in an interview with CNN Witkoff.

Let us add that the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenski will not fly to meet Donald Trump alone – a group of European leaders will join him.
