The judges decided
Former U.S. president Donald Trump was excluded from participating in the Colorado presidential election in 2024. The reason is his function in inspiring the attack on the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.
This decision was made by the State ultimate Court, citing the fourteenth amendment to the US Constitution. According to her, no 1 who has participated in the uprising or rebellion against the United States can service as President. The court concluded that Trump was inciting the force of his supporters who entered legislature headquarters. Trump's squad announced an appeal to the U.S. ultimate Court.
As the judges wrote:
We did not come to that conclusion with a light hand. We are aware of the importance and scale of matters ahead. We are besides aware of our solemn work to apply the law without fear or bias and regardless of the public consequence to the decisions which the law requires.
The judges decided to suspend the entry into force of the judgement until 4 January, that is, at a time erstwhile only 1 day remains until the end of the registration of candidates for Republican primaries. This is to let the ultimate Court to give its message in the case under consideration.

The genesis of the case
The court's decision resulted from a complaint of 7 voters, including six Republican organization members who wanted Trump out of their participation in Republican primaries in their state. The court of first instance refused to remove Trump from the list of candidates, arguing that despite his engagement in the rebellion, the ban contained in the 14th amendment did not apply to the position of President. However, the ultimate Court decided otherwise.
Similar complaints have besides been made in another states, but have not yet produced akin results. Minnesota ultimate Court rejected the application for Trump's disqualification, as did Michigan's appeal court.
Donald Trump cannot hold the highest office again in the state due to his function in the attack on Capitol in January 2021- ruled the Colorado ultimate Court and so the names of the erstwhile president will not be on ballot cards as early as during the primary in this state on 5 March 2024 pic.twitter.com/bdZ4hDd6Bw

Trump's staff responds
Steven Cheung, Trump's run spokesman, announced an appeal from a Colorado court decision to the U.S. ultimate Court, calling it “totally wrong”. Cheung hopes the U.S. ultimate Court will rapidly consider the case in Trump's favor. It considers itself anti-American.
Even if the Colorado court's decision was implemented, it would not necessarily mean Trump's defeat in the election, as the disqualification concerns only elections in this state.
Colorado is considered a comparatively safe state for Democratic candidates. The last Republican presidential candidate to win there was George W. Bush in 2004. In 2020 Trump lost there to Joe Biden, scoring 41% of the vote against 55% for Biden. Most of the judges of the Colorado ultimate Court are Democratic denominations.
The national ultimate Court, in which six out of 9 judges are Republican denominations, will shortly gotta make another crucial decision regarding Trump's election chances, deciding whether Trump's actions to change election results and stay in power were protected by presidential immunity. peculiar Prosecutor Jack Smith, who accused Trump of this case, has requested that this issue be settled before the court.
