According to the Business Insider, according to European Union law, all passenger has the right to carry a hand luggage. However, the rules do not specify how large the baggage can be. There is only a evidence that it is to have "reasonable requirements regarding weight, size and safety".
But what is in the balance of this "reason"? According to 16 consumer organisations from 12 countries, it is not 40x20x25 cm from Ryanair, nor even 40x30x20 cm from Wizz Air. The list of contested carriers besides included Norwegian, EasyJet, Transavia, Volotea and Vueling.
16 consumer organisations submitted a complaint to the European Commission. They come from Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Spain, the Netherlands, Malta, Germany, Norway, Poland and Portugal.
The settlement of the hand baggage dispute will not be quick
However, if you were hoping that the European Commission would deal with this before the holiday, you would be disappointed. It will take months, if not years, to settle this issue. It should be stressed that it concerns the largest carriers in Europe, who carry dozens, if not hundreds of millions, of passengers each year.
