Is the Stanisław Pyjas case a myth? On the morning of May 7, 1977, a man was found dead in a tenement home in Szewskia, Cracow. He was Stanisław Pyjas, a student of Polish Studies, active in the activities of an informal student group at the Jagiellonian University, who made contact with the Workers' Defence Committee and rapidly became the object of the safety Service's work.
Participants in the group were intimidated, under surveillance, and even placed secret informants among them. Therefore, suspicions of Pyjas being killed immediately fell upon safety officers. On Sunday, May 15 at the initiative of Staszek's friends on the streets of the city, students and its residents were crowded out. In a mourning march, later called black, they moved to Wawel, where the Student Solidarity Committee was established, the first openly opposition student organization in Krakow.
