From January to the end of August 2025 railways in Ukraine They carried nearly 19 million tons of grain. Only in August, 2 million 553 1000 tonnes were sent to export, the vast majority of which were sent to the recipients by sea. About 5% of this volume were served by trains, and the share of agricultural products in the weight of goods transported by rail to ports increased to 95% in August.

The railway remains the leader of freight transport in the country – from January to July it carried 92.5 million tonnes of cargo. After the weaker first months of the year August brought a clear reflection. Within 26 days of the month, 2 million 232 1000 tonnes of grain were loaded on the railway network, which is 10% more than the year before and 2.7 times more than in July.

This reflection is definitely felt in our operations. Questions arise about fresh routes, including Central Asia and Turkey – emphasised Pavel Kalasko, Vice president of east Markets at Laude Smart Intermodal and CEO of the company in Ukraine.

The company is preparing to launch regular connections between Turkey and the EU through Ukraine, as well as routes linking the European Union to Georgia and Azerbaijan. The first trains will take off in the fall, and from January 2026 regular transports will include Turkey and Central Asia.

Laude Smart Intermodal, which has around 70% of the marketplace share of intermodal transport in Ukraine, focuses on further expansion and innovation. Currently, 99% of its operations are based on the “one client – 1 train” model, but between 2025 and 1926 the company will start implementing a fresh solution – “Time for Revolution: 1 client – 1 container”. In 2027, the service is to be available to all customers in Europe, competing with road transport.

Thanks to the flexible intermodal model and the presence in many markets, we not only keep a unchangeable level of transport, but besides make fresh opportunities for our customers – noted Kalasko.

The Laude authorities besides emphasise the strategical importance of Poland in the Ukrainian-EU transport corridor.

For this to happen, we should make our terminals attractive, improve bandwidth and speed. We must strive for Ukraine to choose transit through Poland – says Marcin Witczak, president of the Management Board of Laude Smart Intermodal.
