The cooperation of the armed industries, the cooperation within the SAFE programme, the common safety guarantees and the pursuit of fair peace in Ukraine – these are the main topics of meetings of the heads of defence departments of Poland and France: Władysław Kosiniak-Kamisha and Catherine Vautrin. “There will be no strong Europe without strong Poland and strong France,” said the Polish Deputy Prime Minister.
Catherine Vautrin, French defence minister, came to Warsaw today. “We are faithful allies, loyal to each other’s economical partners, and we are among the strongest countries in Europe in terms of building defence potential,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish at a joint conference with the head of the French MON. He added that the cooperation between Poland and France is enshrined in the rule of strengthening European security. “There will be no strong Europe without strong Poland and strong France,” said the deputy prime minister.
Kosiniak-Kamysz besides stressed the importance of May this year Polish-French treaty with Nancy, which assumes inter alia common military assistance in the event of an attack on 1 country. These are very strong safety guarantees. Until now, France has given them only to its neighbours, now Poland joins this elite group – stressed the head of the MON.
Catherine Vautrin stressed in turn that in France they are well aware of the importance of Poland in Europe. “Our partnership is economical but besides strategic,” Vautrin added.
The subject of the talks was besides the improvement of economical cooperation, including the arms industries. As the Polish deputy prime minister said, our country is curious in cooperating with France within the framework Union SAFE Programme. “Complete work on this task is underway, France is 1 of the most crucial partners and a country that will get a large part of the money from SAFE, so here the collaboration and joint purchases of equipment are possible,” said Kosiniak-Kamish. Speaking about defence capabilities which Poland wants to get utilizing the SAFE program, it mentioned first of all the refuelling in the air (now the military does not have tankers). By the way, the French defence minister congratulated Poland on its work on the SAFE programme at the time our Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
During the meeting, heads of defence departments besides raised the issue of aid for Russia's Ukraine and peace negotiations. “A fair peace means accepting the Ukrainians’ desire to have a sovereign independent state,” emphasised the Polish minister.
Vautrin spoke in the same spirit. She pointed out that the safety of the full continent, including Poland, depends on the destiny of the war in Ukraine. "The peace talks should be a discussion in which Ukraine is not only invited but besides has the right to express its opinion and must be heard," said the French minister.
