The proposal was made during a February visit by Greek defence minister Nikos Dendias to the capital of India. The Indians propose a light aircraft built at home [Tejas-Mk1A ](https://defence24.pl/geopolitics/another-delay-programme-tejas) as a cost-effective and "independent alternate to existing suppliers". These machines would replace the planned withdrawal of F-4E Phantom II. The argument for this kind of change – apart from strengthening the alliance – would be, among another things, the acquisition by [Greece](https://defence24.pl/geopolitics/cypr-greece-izrael-wpolwork-against-power-Turkey) and India of French medium-sized combat aircraft Rafale. In India, the tandem of Rafale-Tejas has already become a fact and could likewise become a reality in Greece, and both countries could invest in improving common communication between the 2 platforms.
