Several Polish Border defender officers were attacked in Tbilisi by attackers. 2 of them went to the infirmary with serious injuries and required surgery.

The event was first reported on Thursday by the spokesperson of the Border defender Andrzej Jużwiak. Home Minister Marcin Kierwiński later added that the guards were in Georgia as part of the deportation operation of 10 Georgian citizens and 9 Pakistani citizens from Poland.

According to the Border Guard, most of the 10 deported Georgians committed crimes in Poland, while the Pakistanis did not have the required documents. It was the eleventh of this year's return operation conducted by officers of the Board for Foreigners of the Border defender office in cooperation with Frontex – the European Border and Coast defender Agency.

Kierwiński reported that the attack was carried out by the people of Tbilisi, and the event took place erstwhile Polish officers were in town after the mission was completed. He added that the attackers had already been detained by Georgian authorities.

The Georgian Ministry of the Interior issued a separate message in this case, informing that 2 men were detained in connection with the crime, identified as S.J. and E.G. They were both convicted of serious crimes before.

According to the Ministry, the confrontation took place in a restaurant where E.G. attacked Poles with a “dude object”. After the attack, the attackers fled the scene, but were detained by the police the next day.

Neither the Polish authorities nor the Georgian Ministry of abroad Affairs commented on whether the attack might have been related to the deportation operation.
