The Latvian Government is conducting preliminary discussions with the German arms company Rheinmetall on the production of military equipment in Latvia, as Bloomberg reported.
The talks are part of the wider regional efforts of the Baltic States to strengthen their defence in consequence to ongoing threats from Russia.
Although the talks are inactive at an early phase and their result is unknown, Rheinmetall spokesperson confirmed that the talks were held, but refused to uncover details, citing the early phase of negotiations.
If the agreement takes place, it may be akin to the Rheinmetall cooperation agreement in Lithuania, where the company is presently building a munitions factory.
