IndiGo and SpiceJet Flights Made an Emergency Landing Today

GURUGRAM- IndiGo (6E) and SpiceJet (SG) flights made emergency landings on June 19, 2025, due to separate technical issues.

IndiGo’s Delhi (DEL) to Leh (IXL) service was forced to return shortly after takeoff, while a SpiceJet flight from Hyderabad (HYD) to Tirupati (TIR) also made a precautionary return.

Both incidents involved operational concerns mid-flight, prompting emergency procedures and alternate aircraft deployment. No injuries were reported, and investigations are underway to determine the root causes.

IndiGo, SpiceJet Emergency Landing

On the morning of June 19, 2025, IndiGo (6E) flight 6E 2006, operating from Delhi (DEL) to Leh (IXL), returned to Indira Gandhi International Airport shortly after takeoff.

The Airbus A320, carrying approximately 180 passengers and crew, experienced a technical issue that made a landing in Leh unfeasible. The crew followed standard safety protocols and executed a safe landing in Delhi.

According to Financial Express, the airline confirmed the incident in a statement, citing “operational restrictions” due to a technical snag.

The aircraft was grounded for a detailed inspection, and a replacement plane was arranged to transport the passengers to Leh. IndiGo emphasized that all passengers were safe and that no injuries occurred.

In a separate case, SpiceJet flight SG 2696, operating a Bombardier Q400 from Hyderabad (HYD) to Tirupati (TIR), also made an unscheduled landing back at its origin.

The flight had departed at 6:19 AM and was expected to land in Tirupati by 7:40 AM. However, the crew observed intermittent illumination of the AFT baggage door light mid-flight.

Despite normal cabin pressurisation, the crew opted to return as a safety measure. SpiceJet later confirmed that all passengers were safely deplaned and an alternate aircraft was dispatched for their onward journey.

Safety Protocols and Measures

Both airlines reiterated their commitment to safety, highlighting that precautionary landings are standard procedure when technical anomalies arise. The swift response by flight crews in both cases ensured the safety of all on board.

These incidents underscore the need for regular maintenance and real-time monitoring of onboard systems, especially as India’s domestic air traffic continues to grow.

Aviation authorities are expected to closely review the reports and inspect the grounded aircraft.

Passenger Response

No injuries were reported in either incident, and passengers were accommodated on alternative flights with minimal delay.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) may conduct further assessments to ensure no systemic issues contributed to the malfunctions.

While both airlines handled the situation promptly, these back-to-back events highlight the importance of transparency and robust technical checks across fleets. Passengers are increasingly alert to such disruptions, raising expectations for higher reliability.
