Hungary accuses Ukraine of the death of a Ukrainian citizen of Hungarian origin during forced enlistment. Prime Minister Viktor Orban's chief of law refers to recordings and statements of relatives of the deceased. Budapest demands that 3 Ukrainian officials be placed on the EU sanction list. Ukraine categorically rejects the charges.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban Gergely Gulyas's chief of law stated that Hungary has adequate evidence of the death of a Ukrainian citizen from a Hungarian minority. In answering questions from journalists, he referred to revealed recordings and evidence of male relatives.

According to the Hungarian authorities, a man was killed as a consequence of an effort to force him into the Ukrainian army. "The information available is adequate to make it clear that this form of forced collection is unacceptable" - said Gulyas.

Hungary demands EU sanctions

Head of Hungarian diplomacy Peter Szijjarto formally requested that the European Union include 3 persons from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces of Ukraine on a sanction list. He did not give the names of the 3 Ukrainians, simply stating that they were liable for the “forced conscription” in Ukraine.

On Thursday, July 10, the Secretary of State at the Hungarian MFA Levente Magyar reported on the call of the Ukrainian Ambassador to Budapest for the seat of the Ministry. This decision was linked to the death of a Ukrainian citizen from a Hungarian number in Zakarpacie.

Ukrainian version of events

According to the Hungarian authorities, Ukrainian recruiters were to beat up a man who resisted trying to bring him to the military commission. However, the Ukrainian Embassy in Hungary presented a different version of the events on its Facebook page.

The facility said the origin of death was pulmonary embolism. «We categorically reject any allegations concerning forced enlistment, abuse or violation of human rights" - said the embassy.

Kiev open for investigation

The Embassy added that Kiev is open to a «transparent investigation» on this matter.
