According to the investigation of the CURS centre, George Simion, leader of the right-wing AUR organization (Union for Romanian Unity), won 33.1% of the votes, taking first place. The second position included the Liberal Crin Antonescu (22.9%) and the 3rd – the independent mayor of Bucharest Nicosor Dan (20.9%).

Various centres, akin results
The INSCOP telephone test confirms Simion's advantage, but with an even higher consequence – 36.2%. Antonescu got there 21.5%, and Dan – 20.6%. In turn, exit poll AVANGARDE points to 30% support for Simionwith Dan and Antonescu after 23%.

Diaspora and attendance – key factors
Experts point out that exit poll does not include diaspora voices, which in erstwhile elections proved decisive. This time abroad, she voted more than 970,000 citizens – it was more than in the cancelled first circular in November (then it was 821 thousand). full attendance at home and abroad over 53% about 19 million eligible.

The election ran 11 candidatesbut the best chances for the second circular were:

  • George Simion (AUR) – right-wing leader,
  • Crin Antonescu (liberal supported by the ruling coalition),
  • Nicosor Dan (Mayor Bucharest, independent),
  • Victor Ponta (former Social politician Prime Minister).
