The Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Paszynian and the president of Azerbaijan Ilham Alijew received an authoritative invitation from US president Donald Trump to join the Gaza Peace Council as 1 of its founding members.
According to Paszynana Nazela Baghdasarjan, the Prime Minister accepted this proposal, confirming Armenia's commitment to promoting peace. The Ministry of abroad Affairs of Azerbaijan confirmed that Baku would besides accept the proposal for membership.
Among those invited to join the Council of Peace there was besides Russian president Vladimir Putin – said his spokesperson Dmitri Pieskov, adding that "all the details of this proposal are analysed in the Kremlin". The invitation was besides received by Belarusian leader Aleksandr Lukashenko.
According to media reports, leaders of Turkey, Egypt, Argentina, France, Germany, Poland, Canada and Australia besides received invitations to the Peace Council. The president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen was invited to represent the European Union.
Russia has not yet responded to membership. On the another hand, Belarusian leader Aleksander Lukashenka officially signed a paper on Belarus' accession to the Council.
According to media reports, Trump's proposal to join the Peace Council was rejected by France and Norway. Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenski stated that he was “difficult to imagine” so that Russia and Belarus, alongside Ukraine, would work together in the Council.
It was previously reported that in order to become a permanent associate of the Council of Peace, the state would gotta contribute a billion dollars. An unnamed American authoritative told the Bloomberg agency that the collected funds would be allocated to the implementation of the mandate of the Peace Council for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
