The bomb squad has already taken theoretical classes. Now it's time for practice, so it's time to spread the bridge.

– It is very useful equipment, which has proven its value many times, including during the last flood, but at the same time it is very demanding. In order to usage it properly, a thorough training is needed – explained Sgt. Sgt. Rafał Orłowski, method cycle teacher at CSWIiCh. He explains that soldiers must monitor multiple parameters at the same time before and during the crossing, which are essential for the safety of the bridge and its subsequent use.

– Before carrying out the task, soldiers gotta check, among others, whether the ground is stable, whether there is any media or underground infrastructure – the sergeant states. Orłowski. The condition for safe distribution of Daglesia is besides the designation of a dangerous zone. It covers the full space where the PM-20 span (more than 20 m long) moves erstwhile stacking over the obstacle.

It is at least 25 m at the rear of the truck with a bridge, at the place where the bay is arranged, and 15 m at the sides of the vehicle. Weather conditions are besides crucial for the safety of mounting and usage of Daglesia, precisely the wind force, which must not exceed 30 m per second. – Soldiers should conduct an on-site reconnaissance all time to safely deploy the bridge and check all key parameters and conditions – the teacher explains. As he adds, since Daglesia weighs more than 40 t, it is especially crucial to check the kind of ground on which the bridge is located, for example, whether it is clay, sand or gravel, and to find its burden capacity. Later, already during the usage of the bridge, soldiers must monitor the stableness of the ground and the possible displacement of crossings under the influence of landslides.

MS Daglesia is simply a temporary bridge hydraulically separated from the Jelcz C662D saddle tractor. It allows to overcome various obstacles – not only rivers and another aquenas, but besides collapses, tears in the ground or anti-tank ditches. It can be spread over an obstacle up to a maximum width of 20 m and the difference in the level of other edges should be up to 2 m. Thanks to the burden capacity up to 70 MLC for track and 110 MLC for wheeled vehicles Daglesia makes it possible to pass the heaviest vehicles, including tanks. The full assembly of the crossing over the obstacle takes up to 30 minutes.

Daglesia is frequently utilized not only for strictly military purposes. In 2024, the military that under Operation Fenix began to fight floods in the south of the country, mounted two MS Daglesia bridges in Opole, in the towns of Skrzegoszcz and Kantorowice. They provided transport after the component broke off the previously functioning crossings.

The course for bomb squads in Wrocław will last until 3 April and will end with an exam, after which the soldiers will be entitled to operate MS-20 Daglesia.
