Ms Maria Dłużewska
Ladies and gentlemen!
Deeply saddened by the departure of Mrs. Maria Dłużewski, I pay a solemn tribute to her memory today. I say goodbye to the talented movie artist, writer and author of books, mentioned by many friends as an empathic, helpful and delicate person, yet highly energetic. I express my highest respect for the consequences and courage with which she served the fact and the large thought of Poland free, solidarity and justice.
An actor by her education, in the 1970s. Mrs Maria performed in theatres in the Coast and in Warsaw. Just after the events of August 1980, she joined the ranks of the NSZZ “Solidarity”. She was a co-organizer of Christian Culture Weeks and Mass for Homeland. In the state of war associated with the underground Home Theatre, from 1983 to 1985 she led the second-cycle Monday Theatre established by her. She was a collector of underground releases, she was editor and songwriter of Radio Solidarity, she acted in Fighting Solidarity. In the early 1990s – after respective years of work in the weekly “Meetings” and then “Solidarity Week”, she decided to combine her journalistic passion, commitment to public affairs and exceptional communicative and organizational skills as a director, screenwriter and documentary movie producer. respective twelve of these works – valued and rewarded, treating mainly the past of Polish struggles with communist bondage and about our compatriots in the country – are and will stay an crucial origin of cognition about modern Poland and Poles.
A series of papers about the Smolensk tragedy, about those who lost their lives in it, and about close victims, deserves peculiar recognition. These are films entitled Fog, Disgrace, Daughter, Testament, Poles and Lady. I believe that without these images – created from the request of the heart, hot and at the same time very reliable and professional – it is impossible to realize what happened on April 10, 2010, and the consequences of the Smolensk disaster in subsequent months and years. I am and will always be grateful that in any of these films she besides gave the level to me – so that I can witness about people and events related to this large tragedy.
To the dear and dear friends of the Dead I offer my heartfelt sympathy.
Eternal remainder give to her, Lord!
With respect
President of Poland
Andrzej Duda
