The president of the United States wants this to happen thanks to trilateral talks on the Ukraine-US-Russia line. The future of the war in Ukraine may depend on how Monday talks take place in Washington. It was unofficially reported that Trump-Zelenski-Putin negotiations could start on August 22 or 24, although the Russian President's demands may be a problem.
However, before the trilateral negotiations take place, talks will be held in the White House. Zelenski was last there in February 2025, and his conversation with Donald Trump ended in failure. That is why the president of Ukraine is now taking support with him.
Earlier, the spokesperson for the German Chancellor confirmed that Friedrich Merz would fly to the US. The head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen besides confirmed her participation in the Monday talks through X.
"At the request of president Zelenski tomorrow, I will join the gathering with president Trump and another European leaders in the White House," the politician said. Before that, Zelenski will arrive in Brussels and, together with von der Leyen, will take part in the teleconference of the Volunteer Coalition.
Europe will support talks about the end of the war in Ukraine, but sets conditions
The Sunday teleconference will be the second after the Alaska Summit and the conversation with Donald Trump. After the erstwhile European leaders issued a common position on peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
The paper stresses that it should be for Ukraine to decide whether to give part of its territory to Russia. However, it was added that during the negotiations Putin's conditions regarding the simplification of the Ukrainian army's numbers and the ban on Ukraine's entry into the EU and NATO cannot be accepted.
