Italy is sending a second warship in the area of the Global Sumud Fleet that flows with humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto informed Parliament that a multi-tasking Fasan fregata would be joined by a unit of another capabilities.
Crosetto powerfully condemned the attack on the flotilla, in which Italian citizens besides flow. "The Italian government most powerfully condemns what happened. Attacks on civilian individuals in open waters are completely unacceptable" - said the Minister before the Chamber of Deputies.
International Assistance Mission
Global Flotila Sumud is an global civilian initiative involving representatives of more than 40 countries. It aims to break the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip and to supply assistance to Palestinians surviving in war-torn territory.
On board the units of the flotilla are Poles, including MP Franciszek Sterczewski, president of the Social and Cultural Association of Palestinians of Poland Omar Faris, president of the Nomad Nina Bird Association and writer and activist Ewa Jasiewicz, author of the book "Burn Gaza".

However, the Minister raised the question of the appropriateness of endangering the safety of Italian citizens. "The government has importantly supported the Gaza population. We are able to deliver assistance in a fewer hours" - he said, while ensuring that he is working to avoid incidents.
Search for solutions
Crosetto warned against a possible reaction erstwhile the flotilla leaves global waters and affects the waters of a country that considers its operation "almost hostile" - referring to Israel's attitude. "We have already engaged in the past days and have persuaded the Israeli government to indicate a base where the aid can be unloaded. The flotilla representatives did not agree" - he said.
The Minister informed of efforts to affect Cyprus and the Italian Episcopate to get the Church to supply assistance to the Palestinian population. "I would like the aid that the flotilla is carrying to the Gaza Strip to get there and that no individual or any unit should be harmed" - Crosetto assured.
