Russian dictator Vladimir Putin landed around 21:00 (Polish time) at Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Alaska, where he was welcomed by US president Donald Trump in a presidential style. A red carpet was stretched from the plane's stairs and a immense "ALASKA 2025" was placed in the background.
Trump welcomed Putin to the U.S.
Trump first left the plane, and then Putin approached him, who got off the Russian machine. They greeted and exchanged a fewer words. They shook hands, too. They didn't answer any of the questions that journalists were shouting.
Trump greeted the Russian leader with a handshake, after which both leaders went for talks. The gathering is to take respective hours, and its main subject is to be a ceasefire in Ukraine.
Earlier, the U.S. president told the media that he would be dissatisfied if Putin did not agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine shortly after the Alaska summit.
Such Trump has expectations of this meeting
I want to see a ceasefire fast. I don't know if it's going to happen today, but I'm not happy if it doesn't happen today," Trump stated during a conversation with journalists aboard Air Force One, which quotes CNN.
– Everyone says it's impossible today, but I just say: I want the killing to end," he added.
Trump pointed out that "nothing is doomed" before talks, but hopes for "certain things", including a ceasefire.
Talks are to last about six or 7 hours. Putin's gathering with Trump will be held in "three on three" format – Trump will be accompanied by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and peculiar U.S. envoy Stave Witkoff – reported the White House.
