The European Union should avoid strengthening its defence capabilities by purchasing weapons from outside Europe. Instead, the Community must identify areas in which it remains uncompetitive and take corrective action, assessed French president Emmanuel Macron on the night from Thursday to Friday after an extraordinary gathering of the European Council in Brussels.
