Prof. Jan Grabowski points out that erstwhile over 2 years Grzegorz Braun violently interrupted his lecture on the Holocaust, he received no support from any politician of the opposition (of today's power). It stresses that Democrats only activate in situations specified as now erstwhile the anti-Semitic scandal has global potential.
Why is Braun so supportive? "Approval merges the Polish political scene"
– This consent (for anti-Semitism) is simply a binder that merges the Polish political scene in an incredibly lasting way – says the historian.
The guest of the podcast Short and on the subject referred not only to lies by Grzegorz Braun, but besides to the exhibition "Our boys", which depicts the destiny of Poles from Pomerania by force incorporated into the German army during planet War II. It outraged not only the PiS, but besides Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, president of PSL.
– I have not seen the exhibition, but I closely follow this discussion [...]. To be honest, the first was amazement. Astonishment is due to the fact that this exhibition should not arouse any peculiar emotions – says Anna Dryjanska.
Historian adds that many countries now admit to hard or unpleasant events in their past, but there is no Poland among them. Shy attempts to present uncomfortable facts are stifled by screaming.
"Our Boys" Exhibition. Why in Poland it is forbidden to talk about Poles who are forced into the Wehrmacht
– The title [exhibitions] can be discussed, but in terms of the problem it has been presented, 1 of which I am amazed is that this kind of reflection is so late," the historian points out. The talker at Thematic points out that the destiny of many people and full families is dying in political turmoil.
– We are talking about hundreds of thousands of young Poles who were incarnated in the vast majority of cases against their will to service in the German army. On the first occasion tens of thousands of them took off and fled to the Polish armed forces in the west. They were victims of past and frequently people without responsibility who were thrown into the boiler of past in a brutal way – explains Prof. Jan Grabowski.
Historian does not hide that the attempts of politicians and any of their supporters to shout the fact in the name of the misconceptioned dignity of the nation make him sad. “I am observing this national expansion with large care,” says the lecturer at the University of Ottawa. Controversy around the exhibition "Our Boys" is simply a manifestation of this phenomenon.
– This is yet another proof that past frequently plays the function of religion in Poland – concludes Prof. Jan Grabowski.
