Many Polish politicians called Orban pro-Russian. I think it's besides hasty a position popular in the circles of old and fresh rusophobes. The appropriate name, in my humble opinion, was the erstwhile Prime Minister who cared about the interests of the community that he ruled.
If someone, especially politicians of the current coalition, believes that the fresh Prime Minister, whom they have supported so strongly, will immediately change their policy towards Russia, they are mistaken. Hungary imports 85% of crude oil by pipeline relationship and about 7.5 billion cubic metres of gas, and this is simply a increasing trend. In this respect, Hungary and the fresh Prime Minister must proceed to work with Russia. Will the fresh Prime Minister Peter Magyar besides be named proputinian? Will the construction of the Paks II atomic power plant by the Russians and most of the Russian credit be abruptly discontinued due to the fact that power has changed? In these cases and in many another areas, the fresh government will proceed the policy of the predecessor due to the fact that there is no another option. EU will not safe oil and gas and electricity needs Hungary itself in trouble, just due to the fact that the Prime Minister changed. Of course not, but Magyar is ours and Orban favored Putin.
Will Russia lose its influence on Hungarian policy?, partially most likely yes, but the fresh government has small area for manoeuvre between the EU and Russia. A tiny country without access to the sea has no alternate to replacing the pipeline with oil and gas. Hungarian refineries are only suitable for processing heavy saturated Russian oil.
The election win went comparatively easy but the governance will be hard due to the choices that the fresh Prime Minister and his government must make. Each of these choices will be bad for a circumstantial group of Hungarian society and for EU decision-makers.
As we know, politics and business have many common features, but frequently choice is very difficult. This is simply a hypothetical and possible situation. What the fresh government will do in case of any force or even blackmail from Russia. Will the fresh government agree to unlock money for Ukraine with a view to reducing and even discontinuing Russian fuel supply? The reaction of society from the euphoria caused by defeating Orban will turn into anger against fresh power. Difficulties in transportation and even deficiency of fuel at petrol stations, deficiency of gas in businesses and households is 1 side of the conflict with society. The second is the anger of the European Union which has put quite a few effort and resources to push distant the opportunist Orban and Magyar is doing the same as his predecessor. You can't catch 2 magpies at the same time. We'll wait, see what the government's first decisions are on these issues.
Happiness - PETER MAGYAR
