President Nawrocki's decision to sign a bill introducing taxation on extraordinary profits of fuel companies caused confusion in the ranks of Law and Justice.

According to Onetu's findings, the head of state's plans before Thursday's message were known only to the central office of the group, while many opposition MPs were harshly critical of the government's task on the same day in the morning, promoting the competitive initiative of the Presidential Palace and expecting a veto. The situation of parliamentarians who had previously voted in the Sejm against the fresh regulations was summed up by 1 of the party's anonymous politicians: "We turned out to be clowns".

Disappointment at the opposition club was aggravated by the fact that during his evening appearance to the nation the president not only announced signing, but besides made direct demands to Donald Tusk's cabinet:

"I will end the process of setting Poles as political hostages. In their name, I put forward... concrete expectations: reductions in stations are to take place immediately and should bring fuel prices to the level promised to citizens in the election campaign. Any gold obtained by this bill must be spent on lowering fuel prices. Not in a month. Not after another political brawl. Not in a week or two. Fuel is expected to be cheaper now.”

Political Effects of Decision and consequence of the Governing Camp

The ruling of the head of state was immediately utilized by representatives of the ruling coalition, who began to publically match the names of Members of Law and Justice voting against regulations in parliament. This turn of events put opposition parliamentarians in a hard position of image, as confirmed by another interviewer of the portal: “Now we must eat our own language”.

Among the PiS politicians, there were besides voices criticizing the failure of chance to exert negotiating force on Donald Tusk's cabinet:

"We could have forced them to make any concessions, but the impression that Nawrocki played in Tusk's orchestra arises."

Commentators point out that the President's decision can strengthen the position of the Civic Coalition, which in public opinion investigation maintains a clear advantage over the Law and Justice, weakened by the failure of part of the electorate after an interior split.
