These changes highlight the airline’s commitment to optimizing operations and expanding connectivity across its global network.
Key updates include the launch of new routes, changes in seasonal schedules, and aircraft upgrades to enhance passenger experience. The adjustments as reported by Aeroroutes reflect United’s strategic focus on customer demand and efficiency.
United Airlines Flight Changes for Summer 2025
United Airlines (UA) is set to introduce several new routes while enhancing existing services across its global network for Summer 2025.
These updates cover a wide range of destinations, particularly focusing on seasonal demand and emerging markets.
Chicago O’Hare (ORD)
United Airlines at Chicago O’Hare (ORD) introduces notable adjustments and seasonal route resumptions for 2025, reflecting the demand for transatlantic and other global destinations.
- The Chicago O’Hare–Athens service resumes earlier than previously planned, operating from 1 May to 24 September 2025 with a daily Boeing 787-10. This marks a shift from the previously scheduled 787-8 aircraft, offering more capacity and comfort.
- The Chicago O’Hare–Barcelona route will return earlier on 21 April 2025, ahead of its initial start date of 1 May 2025. This service begins with the Boeing 787-10, transitioning to the 787-8 from 1 May 2025, operating daily.
- Similarly, flights to Dublin will see an equipment upgrade to the Boeing 787-8, replacing the smaller 757-200, starting 29 March 2025.
- Seasonal flights to Milan Malpensa are resuming on 7 April 2025, slightly later than the previously scheduled 29 March, with daily service operated by the 787-8.
- Meanwhile, Munich flights will switch to the 787-8 from the 787-10 beginning 29 March 2025, maintaining daily operations.
- Paris Charles de Gaulle will see the reverse change, with the 787-10 replacing the 787-8 for a daily service from 29 March 2025.
- For leisure travelers, the Chicago O’Hare–Reykjavik Keflavik route will resume from 19 May to 23 September 2025, operated by a 757-200 on a daily basis. This is an earlier start than in previous seasons, signaling strong demand for this Nordic destination.
- Chicago O’Hare–Shannon service also resumes for the summer, with daily flights using the 757-200 from 22 May to 23 September 2025.
San Francisco (SFO)
San Francisco (SFO) features a mix of equipment changes and frequency adjustments for international routes in 2025.
- The San Francisco–Auckland service will be operated thrice weekly using a 777-200ER from 29 March 2025, replacing the previously filed 787-9.
- A similar equipment change is seen on the San Francisco–Brisbane route, where the 777-200ER replaces the 787-9. This route will temporarily increase to daily service during peak periods, from 29 March to 2 May 2025 and again starting 20 September 2025.
- The popular San Francisco–Barcelona route will see the Boeing 787-10 replacing the 777-200ER, starting on 1 May 2025, with daily flights scheduled.
- Additionally, United Airlines plans to operate two daily services to Frankfurt from 2 September to 24 September 2025, both using the larger 777-300ER aircraft instead of the standard mix of -200ER and -300ER.
- Other highlights include a second daily flight to Seoul Incheon starting 29 March 2025, with both services using the 787-9.
- Seasonal adjustments also impact the San Francisco–Sydney route, where the 777-200ER will replace the 777-300ER from 1 May to 1 September 2025, maintaining daily service.
- In the Pacific, United Airlines upgrades the San Francisco–Papeete route to a 787-9, replacing the 787-8, operating five times weekly from 29 March 2025.
- Similarly, Tokyo Narita flights will see a temporary upgrade to the 777-300ER between 2 May and 1 September 2025.
Houston (IAH)
Houston (IAH) sees both equipment upgrades and a strategic expansion of services in 2025.
- The Houston–Amsterdam route will maintain daily service with the Boeing 767-300ER, replacing the larger 777-200ER, starting 29 March 2025.
- Conversely, Houston–Munich flights will benefit from an upgrade to the 777-200ER, replacing the 767-300ER, also beginning 29 March 2025.
- United Airlines has reversed its previously planned seasonal reduction for the Houston–Medellin route. Instead of reducing to three weekly flights, the route will maintain daily service with the 737 MAX 8 from 3 September to 25 September 2025.
- Another new highlight is the Houston–Tokyo Narita service, where the Boeing 787-9 replaces the 777-200ER, offering enhanced fuel efficiency and passenger experience from 29 March 2025.
- Seasonal services such as Houston–Georgetown will see a change in equipment, with the 737-800 replacing the MAX 8, operating four times weekly from 1 May 2025.
Newark (EWR)
Newark (EWR) will serve as a major hub for United Airlines’ expanded European and transatlantic network in 2025, featuring several new routes, equipment upgrades, and frequency changes.
- The Newark–Athens route will see dual services with notable enhancements. From 29 March to 30 April 2025, the daily UA124/125 flights will utilize the 767-400ER instead of the 787-10.
- Additionally, a new three-weekly UA116/117 service with the 767-300ER will start on 31 March 2025, increasing overall weekly frequency from 7 to 10 flights.
- The Newark–Barcelona route will maintain daily service with a 777-200ER, replacing the originally scheduled 767-400ER, starting 29 March 2025.
- Newark–Bilbao is among the new additions, launching three-weekly seasonal flights with the 757-200 from 31 May to 23 September 2025.
- Similarly, a new seasonal service to Dubrovnik increases from 4 to 7 weekly flights from 1 May to 24 September 2025 using the 767-400ER. This route will also extend its schedule to 24 October 2025, operating four times weekly during that period.
- The Newark–Frankfurt route will see a mix of changes, with the UA960/961 service shifting to the 777-300ER from 29 March 2025.
- However, UA074/075 will reduce the frequency from 7 to 4 weekly, operated by the 767-300ER, leading to an overall reduction from 14 to 11 weekly flights.
- Newark–Munich flights will also experience changes, as the 777-200ER replaces the 767-400ER starting 22 May 2025, operating daily until 24 October 2025.
- Among the new routes, Newark–Nuuk will launch as a two-weekly service using the 737 MAX 8 from 14 June to 23 September 2025, offering an exciting addition to Greenland.
- Newark–Palermo is another highlight, with three-weekly 767-400ER flights available from 21 May to 24 September 2025.
- Additionally, the Newark–Ponta Delgada service resumes on 5 June 2025 with five weekly 737 MAX 8 flights, increasing to daily between 30 June and 2 September 2025.
- Seasonal flights to Malaga, Reykjavik Keflavik, and Milan Malpensa will also see resumption and modifications.
- Newark–Rome will showcase dynamic equipment shifts, transitioning between the 787-10, 777-200ER, and 777-300ER at various intervals through the summer.
Los Angeles (LAX)
Los Angeles (LAX) witnesses a mix of expansion and frequency reductions, particularly for its long-haul routes.
- The Los Angeles–Beijing Capital route launches as a new addition, offering three-weekly flights with the Boeing 787-9 starting 1 May 2025. This route marks a significant enhancement in connectivity to China.
- Conversely, the Los Angeles–London Heathrow service will reduce from two to one daily flight starting 29 March 2025, with the remaining service operated by the 787-9.
- The Los Angeles–Tokyo Narita route will see temporary adjustments, as the UA828/874 service operates four weekly flights during August 2025 instead of daily, reducing overall frequencies for the summer.
Washington Dulles (IAD)
Washington Dulles (IAD) highlights strategic expansion in Europe and Africa for the summer of 2025.
- The Washington Dulles–Accra service will increase to six weekly flights with the 787-8 starting 30 March 2025, up from three weekly in the previous season.
- Similarly, a new route to Dakar launches with three-weekly 767-300ER flights beginning 23 May 2025.
- The Washington Dulles–Barcelona route will undergo equipment changes, transitioning to the 787-8 from the 767-300ER from 22 May to 30 July 2025.
- Meanwhile, the Washington Dulles–Dublin service doubles in frequency, increasing from one to two daily 757-200 flights starting 29 March 2025, meeting the growing demand for this transatlantic destination.
- New seasonal services to Venice Marco Polo and Nice will debut on 22 May 2025 and 24 May 2025, respectively. Both will be operated by the 767-300ER, with Venice operating daily and Nice running four times weekly until 24 September 2025.
Tokyo Narita (NRT)
United Airlines continues to strengthen its presence in Asia with new and returning services from Tokyo Narita (NRT).
Beginning 11 July 2025, the airline will resume a daily connection to Kaohsiung, operated by a Boeing 737-800. This route marks United’s return to Kaohsiung after nearly three decades, as it was last served by Continental Micronesia between October 1993 and April 1998.
Additionally, plans are in motion to launch two weekly flights to Koror, providing travelers with a direct connection to the capital of Palau. Although the launch date and reservations remain unavailable, this service, is operated by a Boeing 737-800.
From 1 May 2025, United will also introduce a daily service to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia’s capital, using a Boeing 737-800. While reservations for this route are not yet open, the addition highlights Tokyo Narita’s strategic importance as a gateway for connecting flights across Asia.
Guam (GUM)
United Airlines is making adjustments to its routes from Guam (GUM), refining its network to balance demand and efficiency.
Starting 2 April 2025, the frequency of flights between Guam and Nagoya will be reduced from seven weekly flights to five, with services operated by a Boeing 737-800. This change reflects a measured approach to matching capacity with seasonal travel patterns.
For travelers heading to Taipei Taoyuan, United will reintroduce two weekly flights starting 2 April 2025, also using the Boeing 737-800.
Service between Guam and Tokyo Narita will see temporary modifications during the summer season. From 1 August to 31 August 2025, the UA828/874 flights will operate at a reduced frequency of four weekly flights, compared to the previously scheduled daily service.
Additionally, for the period between 1 April and 31 July 2025, the total frequency for this route will decrease from 25 weekly flights to 18 weekly flights, reflecting evolving market demands.
