Ukraine safety Service (SBU) together with State Police arrested a group preparing the sale of a large batch of weapons, obtained from front units and western gifts. Tens of rifles, grenades, grenade launchers and thousands of ammunition were secured.
Ukrainians sold weapons they received from Western countries including Poland. In the Kiev and Dynepropetrovsk Circuits, the safety Service of Ukraine and the police carried out joint actions which led to the suppression of the actions of 1 of the criminal groups active in the illicit trafficking of arms. After the weapons were restored, the perpetrators searched for buyers. According to investigative findings, customers were to be representatives of local criminal communities who could usage weapons to commit further crimes. The SBU revealed the group's activities in preparation for the sale of another batch of weapons and ammunition. As part of the crime monitoring, officers detained suspects in the act while packing the ‘consignments’.
During searches in illegal workshops and on the premises of farms belonging to suspects, an additional 13,000 pieces of ammunition of different calibers were secured, as well as crucial amounts of cash. According to preliminary investigative findings, weapons and ammunition came from army warehouses, in which the older weapons obtained during the Russians were stored, and from the erstwhile countries of the east bloc, including Poland and Romania, as part of the aid. Hence, in the case of secured items, it is almost exclusively about weapons of russian and Russian production.
