"Casus Beli. Why this war?" directed by Maciej Maciejowski and Michał Orzechowski tells about mechanisms of Russian aggression on the example of the attack on Georgia in 2008 and on Ukraine since 2014.
The paper contains unique and previously unpublished photographs of the fighting and period of Russian business of Georgia 2008. The cameras besides documented the demolition on the first day of the Russian Odessa fire in April 2022.
As part of the film, a fresh interview with erstwhile Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili was conducted before his return to the country and his arrest. Saakashvili remains imprisoned in a infirmary under strict police supervision by current Georgian authorities.
The main characters of “Casus belli. Why this war?" are average people affected by the tragedy of war. The movie features participants of the presented events, in addition to the B.C. president of Georgia, besides Mamuka Mamulashvili, the creator of the Georgian Legion, Gen. Roman Polko, Marshal Małgorzata Gosevska and many another figures and commentators from Poland, Georgia, Ukraine.
The paper besides shows Lech Kaczyński's attitude towards the Russian attack on Georgia.
The film's production began in 2020. During photos in Georgia, the movie crew fell sick with Covid 19.
In 2021 and 2022, photos were realised in Poland and Ukraine.
Meanwhile, there was another wave of Russian aggression against Ukraine predicted by the film's creators.
The preliminary release of this documentary took place on 22 June 2022 in the Sejm building, under the honorary patronage of Deputy Marshal Małgorzata Gosiewska. Among the guests of the event were, among others, the Polish Ambassador to Georgia Mariusz Maszkiewicz and the Georgian Ambassador to Poland Zurab Berigze.
