Ukraine will conduct a search in Poland. It's Warsaw's agreement

Poland agreed to carry out investigation work in the Łasków village in Chełmszczyz - announced Deputy Minister of Culture of Ukraine Ivan Werbycki. This region is the likely burial site of Ukrainian civilians killed in 1944. Kiev has been waiting months for decisions on this matter.

"Poland has given approval to carry out the Ukrainian expeditionary squad search work on site Łasków village in Chełmszczyz, at the site of the likely burial of Ukrainian civilians murdered by the Peasants Battalions in March 1944" - wrote Deputy Minister of Culture of Ukraine Ivan Werbycki on Facebook.

According to the Deputy Minister, approval was given to the Search and Memorial Center "Dola" (Los). Works will be carried out on behalf of Ukrainian Institute of National Memory.

Ukraine has obtained approval to search in Poland. Confirmed.

Lublin Provincial Monument Conservationist Dr Dariusz Kopciowski confirmed that the head of the Zamość delegation on Monday issued a search permit In Łaskow in the area of Hrubieszowski.

Werbycki noted that obtaining consent was the consequence findings of the Polish-Ukrainian working group for worthy burials, at the initiative of the Ministries of Culture of both countries.

On 26 August, the Ukrainian section of Radio Swoboda reported that Ukraine over a year looks forward to approval for exploration and exhumation work in the territory of Poland, although the Polish side carries out specified work in Ukraine.

Search continues in Ukraine. Works not only on Volyn

The material reported that the exhumation work on the erstwhile site began on August 25 cemetery in Holosk, Lviv, where soldiers of the Polish Army are buried, died in the defence of Lviv in September 1939.

The exhumations and burials in the erstwhile village were besides mentioned. Boxes in the present region of Tarnopolski, search in Head Volyn and Pieniacka Huta in Lviv and exhumations of Polish victims of the Volynsk crime in Strawberries and Wola Ostrowiecka.

In July, Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Vasily Bodnar informed that the Ukrainian side had submitted applications to the IPN for conducting search and exhumation work in Poland. At the same time, he assured that these decisions would not depend on the consent of Polish specialists in Ukraine.

On August 26, a spokesperson for Polish IPN Dr. Rafał Kościński stressed that "The Institute of National Memory provides procedural and assistance to the Ukrainian side in the correct preparation and conduct of applications". However, as he pointed out, the IPN only gives consent to search and exhumation works of war graves.
