TV8: Leader of Gagauzia Evghenia Guțul released home

The Ciocana territory court in Chisinau decided on 9 April to amend the preventive measurement against the Bashkan (chief) of the autonomous region of Gagauzia, Evghenii Guțul, and to apply home arrest to it. The Moldovan Prosecutor's Office requested an extension of provisional detention, while the defence argued that the prosecution did not supply any evidence of the responsibility of the sashkans.

Evghenia Guțul, who was physically present at the trial, will be placed under home arrest for 30 days. The current preventive measurement — detention — is valid until 15 April.

Guțul is simply a suspect in criminal proceedings in Moldova, which has been in court since April 2024. She is accused of systematically importing money from Russia to Moldova, which was then utilized to finance the political activities of the party, in 2019–0222. The Moldovan anti-corruption prosecution besides accuses her of coordinating the work of any offices of this party.

After the arrest, Evghenia Guțul sent letters asking for protection to Russia's leader Vladimir Putin, U.S. president Donald Trump and Vice president J.D. Vance.

While the judges were examining the prosecution's motion, respective twelve supporters of the head of Gagauzia chanted the slogans of support. After announcing the court decision, they responded with applause.
