In Poland there is simply a stormy discussion around Karol Nawrocki's apartments, a candidate of the Law and Justice in the presidential election. Prime Minister Donald Tusk issued an order to the ministers, and Anna Maria Żukowska of the Left presented concrete proposals for changes in housing policy.
Tusk: ‘Required solutions to defend seniors’
During the Tuesday gathering of the Council of Ministers, Prime Minister Donald Tusk referred to controversy related to the properties of Karol Nawrocki. – "I ask you to prepare a advice on how Polish law can defend elder citizens from extortions and simple scammers. This is the best consequence to the large confusion that Poland is going through today” said the head of government.
Tusk's words referred to the dispute between PO and PiS politicians concerning Nawrocki housing transactions. Earlier on the X platform, Prime Minister wrote: “Mateus, Charles, Jarosław, Joachim – they should all do in the flat house. Lands, apartments, skyscrapers, renovations... Everything inexpensive or free. You won't find better ones”.
Żukowska: “The Left has ready solutions”
Anna Maria Żukowska, MP of the Left, rapidly responded to the Prime Minister's words, reminding her party's demands on housing. She mentioned 5 key proposals:
- Anti-Fliper Act
- Cadastral taxation from 3 apartment
- Prohibition of privatisation of public property for 5% of its value (including municipal housing sale)
- Prohibition by the seller of power of lawyer to sale the flat to the buyer of this apartment
- Payment of the property price by transfer only
Leftist politicians have long criticised the coalitions for their deficiency of decisive action on housing policy.
PiS defends Nawrocki: “All lawful”
Meanwhile, the Law and Justice firmly defends their candidate. The party's politicians presented a fragment of Jerzy Z.'s will and a notarial act concerning the flat in Gdańsk, stressing that Nawrocki's transactions were legal. An ombudsman for Nawrocki's election staff besides published his property message to disprove the charges.
The dispute around Nawrocki's apartments shows how much the housing facility became the subject of political struggle. Will the government introduce fresh regulations? Will the Left push its demands? These questions will be answered next weeks.
