US president Donald Trump ordered the deportation of all Venezuelan migrants suspected of joining the Tren de Aragua gang yesterday. The president besides referred to the bill of 1798 allowing the expulsion of citizens of the countries at war from the US. The decision was temporarily suspended by the court.
According to a proclamation issued yesterday, the president ordered the arrest and deportation of all Venezuelan migrants over the age of 14 recognised by the authorities as members of the Tren de Aragua – 1 of the most dangerous Venezuelan gangs.
Alien Enemies Act
Trump cited the 18th century "Alien Enemies Act" ( abroad Enemy Act) allowing for the express deportation of foreigners without average procedures. The Act allows the expulsion of citizens of states engaged in war against the United States and has so far only been utilized respective times in American history, for the last time during planet War II to deport immigrants from Germany, Italy and Japan.
In his proclamation, Trump stated that gang members were "doing, trying and threatening to invade or loot the United States."
Yesterday, a national court justice in Washington, D.C., James E. Boasberg, issued a decision to temporarily suspend 14-day deportations of all Venezuelans who were to be expelled under the laws of 1798. According to Politico, the justice besides ordered that any deportation flights that could have started since Trump's decision was implemented.
The president has repeatedly announced the usage of controversial law during his election campaign. He besides frequently mentioned a Venezuelan gang in this context, who accused of taking over full residential buildings in Aurora, Colorado. Tren de Aragua was besides included on the list of terrorist organizations.
