The U.S. president besides threatened Iran with "secondary duties", i.e. the imposition of duties on Iran's oil merchant countries. akin sanctions in an NBC interview threatened Russia, and this week announced 25-percent duties on products from countries purchasing oil from Venezuela. They are to enter into force on April 2.
Letter to Ayatollah
Trump sent a letter offering direct negotiations in early March to Iran's spiritual and political leader ajatollah Ali Chamenei. It was intended to give the Iranian authorities 2 months to make a decision and endanger to exacerbate the sanctions that Trump imposed on Iran in early February as part of the "maximum pressure" campaign.
Iran was due to respond via Oman this week, and on Sunday Iranian president Masud Pezeszkaan rejected the thought of direct talks but did not exclude negotiations through another states.
