"Great advancement on Russia. Wait for further information," Donald Trump announced on social media. More widely, he told of them in an interview with CNN tv Steve Witkoff, a peculiar envoy of the president of the United States. Witkoff stated that the Alaska gathering was the first, during which the Russians began to agree to any proposals for an agreement made on the another side. These include concessions in any regions of Ukraine and safety guarantees "in the kind of Article 5 NATO".
"We didn't think we'd be anywhere close the consent of [Kremla – ed.] to protection from Art. 5 [NATO for Ukraine – ed.] (...), which would not affect any another territory after the codification of the peace agreement," Witkoff said in the "State of the Union" program on CNN television.
"We have come to an agreement that the United States and another European countries can effectively offer provisions akin to Article 5 as a safety guarantee," said Trump's peculiar envoy.
After the summit at Anchorage military base in Alaska, we know that for freezing the conflict in Ukraine Russia demanded all Donbass, the designation of Crimea as Russian territory and the abolition of all sanctions imposed on Russia after the outbreak of the war on February 24, 2022.
Despite costly conditions, Witkoff remains an optimist. He revealed that Russia had agreed to territorial concessions in occupied circuits outside Donbas. However, he did not uncover which regions.
"This is the first time we are on track," Witkoff said in CNN. "We see more concessions than always before, and surely more than in the erstwhile administration. It's optimistic. Now we gotta build on it," he stressed.
