Polish bill on reconstruction of Polish railways and bus transport and on saving jobs on freight railways
On March 30, 1996, the Green Federation, the Ecological Transport Society and the Association of Residents of the Border Settlements, representing residents of districts threatened by the construction of the A4 motorway, organized a picket under the Provincial Office in Krakow. The slogans on our banners are: “OUTOSTRADY – ROADS TO... NOBODY” and: “ THEIR EXPERTS, WITH OUR TRUTH”. In addition to information about motorways, more general statements devoted to pathological car subculture were of large interest. 1 of the passersby gave us as an expression of appreciation for the large donations – it was adequate for any paints and banner sticks. In the leaflets, we tried to emphasize the overthrow of popular myths that highways are economical development, jobs, fuel savings. There was besides information on the wellness impacts and actual costs and planned charges.

- “Tiri on the tracks” is simply a civic run that began in 1996. How and why is the Seym Left and the Last Generation fighting present to get the trucks to land on the tracks?
- The Polish draft Act on the Reconstruction of Polish Railways and Bus Transport and on the Saving of Jobs on Freight Railway gives the municipalities real power: they can pass a ban on entry of TIRs above 30-35 tonnes on their full territory or on selected roads – provided that they justify this with health, environment or safety. How many municipalities in Poland will actually usage this tool and what will this change in the regular lives of people?
- The bill includes an work for large logistics companies – any goods gotta go by rail, otherwise they pay a replacement fee. On the another hand, fresh economical zones and large warehouses must be close to the railway siding. How are these 2 mechanisms together expected to force logistics to change habits and isn't that the "game chainer" which the railway in Poland needs for years?
- What would be the real social and economical impact in the next 10 years if the law were implemented.
- Will the bill last the opposition of the road lobby? How do you measure the chances of her being admitted to the Sejm?
- What can average citizens do to support the revolution on tracks and roads?
- What crucial question has no 1 yet asked you on the topics we are talking about? And what is the answer to that question?
