The German Euro MP surprised. "Unfreezing Poland's EU funds is simply a mistake"

KE made a mistake, defrosting money for Poland after Tusk was elected. You should have waited for reforms," says DW Moritz Körner. He responds to criticism from Polish politicians that "this is not about the past and war".

– It turns out that the European Commission made a mistake by releasing EU funds for Poland after the election of Donald Tusk as Polish Prime Minister, before the reforms began to bear fruit in practice – he writes in consequence to questions by Deutsche Welle Moritz Körner, a German Euro MP from the liberal faction of Renew.

Following the election of Karol Nawrocki as president of Poland Körner warned on page X that if the fresh president blocks reforms to reconstruct the regulation of law, the European Union will gotta frost European funds for Poland again. He added that the withdrawal period for Poland was over and that the Polish government had to decision forward with reforms.

Polish right brings back the war and crimes of Germans

The German Euro MP caused a sharp reaction of Polish politicians, especially from the right. There was a charge that Germany inactive did not respond for crimes committed in Poland during planet War II and did not pay war reparations. Therefore, they should not talk of Poland in a way that shows superiority, nor instruct Poles in matters of politics, nor interfere in Polish matters.

In correspondence with DW Körner, he maintains that "the statements of the future president of Poland propose that he intends to block the reforms that are essential to gain access to EU funds".

– If this happens, or if the Polish government does not even effort to pass these reforms, the European Commission will gotta frost the measures for Poland under EU law," Körner points out. He besides stresses that the claim that as a German should not "give advice on the regulation of law, but pay reparations is simply primitive".

– With the same arguments, 1 could ask me not to talk about cutting red tape, competitiveness or another European issues until I pay for the reparations – it is in correspondence with the DW.

War study as an argument for the regulation of law

A fewer days ago, Polish MEP from the faction of European Conservatives and Reformists (EKR) Arkadiusz Mularczyk recorded on video how he enters Körner's office and presents him with a study prepared by the squad under his direction, which was estimated by Polish war losses as a consequence of German aggression in September 1939 and an almost six-year business of PLN 6 trillion 220 billion 609 million.

Körner, a 1990 year old, wrote in consequence to X a call to "Polish friends", in which he maintained his opinion and expressed surprise with Mularczyk's actions. And one more time he met with criticism from Poland. Now in correspondence with the DW emphasizes that "this is not about the past. Not planet War II. Not national pride. It's about the future. Whether we want a Europe based on trust and common principles, or a Europe in which agreements no longer have any value."

He adds that the European Union is not just a political project, but "family, and in the household we talk openly, we commit to each another – and we do not quit on each other." It besides stresses that Poland and Germany are equal partners in the EU, who must comply with jointly agreed rules.

Bone reparations of disagreement between Poland and Germany

For years, the German governments have felt a moral work for the harm done to Poland and Poles during the war, while Berlin believes that the substance of reparation is legally closed.

Although Germany has been signaling a increasing willingness to participate more for any time Germany in Polish-German projects aimed at reconciliation and close-up, but gestures made – as the late unveiled temporary memorial to the memory of Polish victims of the war in Berlin in the form of a large stone – are considered insufficient in Poland.

The differences – despite the clear sympathy and willingness of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz – were visible even during the gathering of these 2 leaders in Warsaw.

Merz, although he referred to the war and admitted that the Germans had "immeasurable suffering" to Poles, for which they had "great guilt" and "never forgotten the millions of victims of the business of Poland", asked about the issue of reparation confirmed the position of the German government that the case is legally closed. He preferred to talk about the future, deepening cooperation in the field of safety and reminded that Polish and German pilots together are guarding the Polish sky, and German rocket systems Patriot defend the Rzeszow airport in Jasionka.

Poland hopes that Germany will come forward with a proposal that would not undermine the existing legal state, but would let any form of redress, that is, financial support for the surviving Polish victims of war and occupation. Their number is estimated at 6,000.

The EP will sue the Commission for money for Poland?

Moritz Körner asked what action he intends to take in the European Parliament if the fresh president of Poland does not effort to block the reforms, or if the government does not effort to introduce them, recalls that the European Parliament has already sued the European Commission for unlocking frozen funds for Hungary, even though the Hungarian reforms have not worked in practice.

– The EP will do the same if the Commission refuses to re-freeze funds for Poland. Not to punish or origin a dispute, but to defend the trust that binds our community – it provides for a politician who sits, among another things, in the parliamentary committee (LIBE) dealing with issues of the regulation of law.

In his opinion, money can be paid "only those countries where there is simply a warrant that their illegal usage will be effectively punished". "If the conditions for the payment of funds are not met, I will argue unlocking them – out of respect for all European taxpayers," he added.
