Today it is 1 year since the death of Piotr Nowina-Konopka – co-founder and longtime friend of our Foundation. Academic teacher, diplomat, Europeanist and, above all, man of dialogue, Peter was at the birth of Schuman Foundation at a time erstwhile the Polish place in united Europe was inactive a dream. Earlier, as spokesperson for Lech Wałęsa, he accompanied the breakthrough moments of the end of the Polish People's Republic, as an MP of the Democratic Union, he co-formed the beginnings of the 3rd Republic of Poland, and as the Rector of the European College in Natolin for years, he trained successive generations of Europeanists. After 2004, he was the first Pole to hold advanced positions in the structures of the European Union, including as a typical of the European Parliament in Washington. He besides served Poland as an ambassador to the Vatican.
He brought large cognition and deep conviction to the Foundation that Europe is primarily a community of values – and that building it requires patient, everyday work at the base.
We proceed this work.
