The European Commission is taking Poland to the EU Court of Justice for failing to decently implement EU rules on the right to a lawyer, and is launching separate proceedings for shortcomings in ex officio legal aid. The case focuses on how suspects and defendants are treated in Poland at the earliest stages of criminal proceedings.
