Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez reported on the magnitude of the massive power failure that hit his country on Monday. At the evening conference, the head of government announced that the power drop was as much as 60 percent.
In 5 seconds we lost 15 GW of power – announced the Prime Minister. That's about twice what 5 Spanish atomic plants generate.
Due to power shortages in Spain, there was quite a few communication chaos. There were no subways and trains in the capital. There was besides no Internet, no doorphones or payment terminals. Scheduled tennis matches were cancelled at the WTA tournament.
The power has now been restored to 99 percent.
The origin of the powerful blackout remains unknown. Portugal and any regions of France, Italy and Germany were besides out of electricity.
