The Swedish abroad Ministry reported that a Swedish citizen arrested in that country was executed in Iran in 2025. The Stockholm Ministry of Diplomacy notified a call for an interview of the Iranian ambassador.
"I was afraid to receive information about the failure of a Swedish citizen in Iran," said abroad Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard in a statement. The head of diplomacy assured that the ministry had taken consular action in this case.
According to Iran's emigration human rights organization, HRANA, a man was arrested during the 12-day war in 2025 and subsequently sentenced to death punishment for alleged espionage for Israel.
A man with dual nationality has had a Swedish passport since 2019. His identity hasn't been revealed.
