Putin reacted to the thought of a ceasefire
On Tuesday, Ukrainian and U.S. delegations came up with proposals to halt fighting in the air, at sea and at land. In a Thursday message Vladimir Putin declared that he supported U.S. president Donald Trump's general initiative to end the war by diplomatic means. At the same time, he stated that the “essential causes of war” should be eliminated.
— We agree with the proposals for a ceasefire, but our attitude implies a ceasefire leading to a lasting peace," Putin stated at a joint press conference with president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
He noted that there were "certain nuances" concerning e.g. the Kurd region. According to Putin, it is already under full control of Russia. “If we halt our military activities for 30 days, what does that mean? This means that all the people who are there, military, Ukrainians who are there, will have the chance to leave without a fight," the Russian dictator said.
