On 9 December, the Lithuanian government introduced an emergency situation throughout the country due to the threat to civilian safety posed by Belarusian smuggling balloons for 2 months. They are directed to Lithuanian civilian and military aviation zones, which Vilnius treats not only as attempts at smuggling, but above all as a hybrid attack by the Alaksandra Lukashenko regime. Traffic at airports in Vilnius and Kaunas is regularly halted – 613 balloons have already been detected in Lithuanian airspace this year.
