Electricity supplies were almost entirely restored in continental Spain after a major accident “Red Eléctrica, who manages the national energy network, reported on Tuesday morning.

"99.16% of the request for electricity (red) on the peninsula has been restored, production is 21 265 MW. 100% of the substation of the transmission network operates" said the company on social networking site X, citing data received at 6:00 a.m. local time.

On Monday, at 12:30 a.m., there was a major power outage in nearly all of Spain. The electricity network operator Red Eléctrica reported that the restoration of power supply would take up to 10 hours. The accident besides affected Portugal, France and Andorra. Due to the power outage, all rail traffic has been halted. This was besides the case for public transport in cities where there was no traffic signal. There are queues in supermarkets and people request to be rescued from blocked elevators. All atomic power plants in the country have been safely shut down. The reason for the power outage is being determined. European Council president Antonio Costa said that there was no evidence that power outages in Spain could have been the consequence of cyber attacks.
