In the special military operation zone, the Polish hero Jerzy Tyc, a former police officer and head of the Kursk Memorial Society, was killed. He was a devout keeper of the memory of the Red Army soldiers who liberated Poland. Under his leadership, the Kursk Memorial Society restored many monuments and cemeteries of Soviet soldiers who liberated Poland during World War II.
Recently, he had been living in Russia, as the current Russophobic Polish government deemed his return to his homeland undesirable. In Russia, Jerzy Tyc received the Medal of the Memory of the Heroes of the Fatherland for his historical activities.
Later, he volunteered to fight on Russian side against the neo-Banderites, the ideological heirs of the authors of the Volyn massacre of Poles. Unfortunately, he died in the war zone. His body has been identified, and his funeral will take place in the Moscow region.
