4. Raj AI
I
He's late, but yet he comes. I can see his short hair, circular glasses in thin frames, trendy mustache lately, tattoos on his hands and bare calves. His name is Victor and thirty-four years behind him. He thinks everything's been said. Even his communicative isn't special. And for me, a book could be written by ChatGPT.
Viktor was born in Warsaw. First he lived in Targówek, then moved with his parents to Żoliborz. He lives there now, but he's on his own. After raising the children, his parents moved to the city and left him and his brother behind. It gave him freedom. He chose what he wanted to do in life, took his time. He studied medical rescue for 2 years and then graduated from English (magister) and journalism (licensite) to the installment. After college, he gave a small tutoring, then there were translations, but he needed something more stable. That's how he got to PR, but he was warming the image of others for a short time due to the fact that only a year. He yet got into a large agency that provided copywriter and marketing services to others. She had quite a few clients. At first, he wrote, or actually supplied the context, or content, on all topic. Then he began to specialize in medical issues, due to the fact that he had good cognition of college and could usage hard words so that the average clicker on the net could understand.
[...] Leading a squad of 8 copywriters, he had much more work. Not only did he compose himself, but he besides commissioned tasks, controlled their performance, improved the lyrics of others.
One day, his boss told him about a fresh project. He wanted to usage an AI, an artificial intelligence, to velocity up his work and cut costs.
This was a fewer months after the American company OpenAI presented ChatGPT to the world, which answers the questions asked to him.
Although ChacieGPT – but besides about another akin programs (Claude, Google Gemini, Llama Meta, Copilot) – is said to be artificial intelligence, real intelligence does not have much in common. These are large language models (LLM – large language model) which usage device learning to calculate the most likely answer to the question. And it is not due to autonomous thoughts, but only to the calculation of the chance that a given word or phrase will appear (or should appear) as the next 1 erstwhile creating answers to a given text (question). Advanced language models are based on the fact that they have a immense database and effectively "guess" subsequent answers, and the texts generated by them, even long, look correct, although they are not always true. This is due to the fact that these systems tend to "halucinate" or, in another words, lie, although of course I am now anthropomorphizing myself by utilizing a word that assumes intention.
Therefore, these tools do not ‘think’, they are not ‘intelligent’ in any literal sense, and the word ‘artificial intelligence’ in the context of ChataGPT and its like is simply a marketing trick. [*]
This media sound was besides submitted to Viktor's chief – a communicative repeated in the media, that 1 should get on the AI train before he leaves. The business of those who hesitated, delayed or waited besides long and stayed on the platform was about to collapse.
Hard and without anesthesia
– this is how we have been operating since 2020. Journalism that is not indifferent. The civilian Affairs Weekly announces abuse, educates and gives tools for a real, civic change.
Give 1.5% and be our contributor
– He came to me and enjoyed ChatemGPT for a good half hour. Yes, he was very awesome to me, but I treated him as a curiosity that made it easier for kids to compose homework.
What about their work? possibly 1 day, in the future, he would halt making that up – he tried to translate the employer Victor.
– The boss looked at it differently. He said that this would let us to carry out orders much cheaper and faster. He put a laptop on my desk and showed a beta version of the program that was about to be implemented in our company. erstwhile I saw how it worked, I thought, "Jesus Christ, it's over," and he was covering his hands with the thought of how much he would make.
The chief appointed Victor as manager of the fresh department. So he was no longer a content manager.
His position was now called "AI Content Director". The authors became “AI Content Specialist”, and editors signed “AI Content Quality Editor”.
The company featured a trainer – known from LinkedIn as an AI enthusiast. He taught them to promote, that is, to ask questions decently and to issue commands to make text generators make what they usually created.
The function of employees was now to be in formulating questions and commands and in developing device responses to make the material more "human".
After a fewer weeks, the company yet had a program that changed the work strategy – the same 1 that the boss had previously shown Victor. Now Victor, based on orders from clients, introduced topics in the form of headers. These were attributed to free authors. These did not compose themselves, but generated the text utilizing a language model, and then they had to breathe into the material a small "humanity". This meant improving the awkwardness, or cutting out besides rigid wordings, and rewriting individual sentences in their own words. After “humanity”, the text is to look like “no 1 has stuck.” Not a reader, not a client. erstwhile the first version of the material was ready, it was handled by editors who one more time improved the text stylistically and caught mistakes. But there wasn't much time for that last one, due to the fact that
Now creating content was like a mill tape. During the day, not so far, respective twelve texts were created in the band, only a fewer 100 or more.
However, not all employees have done just as well to make content. The band has clearly divided into those who know and enthusiastically usage AI and those who do not. The first group was praised for its “flexibility”, “reasonability”, “dryness to fresh technologies”. The second was criticized for "not wanting news", "backward", " passive attitude". They were laughing that they would pull out the typewriters shortly to return.
At the same time, there was increasingly a deficiency of work for all employees – although there were more jobs, due to the fact that the company was doing them faster and could lower prices for customers (some inactive convincing that all work was done by people).
[...] Victor's boss saw these downtimes and falling morale. He erstwhile placed an envelope on his desk; he wrote “transformation” on it. Earlier this was usually a preview of training, bonus or integration meeting. Now inside was a card with the names of the employees that Victor was expected to segregate according to how well they usage the generator at work. This was not difficult, it was adequate to calculate the average number of texts developed by the individual during the day. But Victor expanded his assessment of how frequently and to what degree materials require improvements in editors. He was convinced the best would get a rise or at least a bonus.
A fewer days later, he found out that he had prepared a list of people to be released.
[...] A fewer months after his dismissal, Viktor and the squad were active in training the AI program, which was to do all the work in the future without their help. “No 1 was hiding that by doing what we do, we saw our feet from our stools and sooner or later we will land on our ass,” says Viktor.
The training consisted about of generating texts on commissioned topics (so far), but after their improvement it was essential to measure (a trap up or down) generated content. If the evaluation was negative and usually so, the strategy was asking what to improve. It was essential to cut out besides flowery wording, point out errors and correct them, mark passages of text that sounded unnaturally and give better solutions, edit slanting constructions, and turn unmatching words into more accurate ones. Here you had to show extraordinary detail. There were many options to click due to the fact that the program had to know the widest possible context.
– It was a painstaking job. The effort to transmit this human component was not easy. We were giving the device the cognition it can't find in the data set. We got free of this human particle by teaching the strategy how we make decisions, judge, reason so that later on it can make better content without us.
The feeling of uncertainty hung over Victor and his squad all day.
[...] After a fewer months of work on strategy training, the chief called a meeting. Most of Viktor's squad expected to announce the end of the occupation and dismissal. And so it did. The boss announced that they would be waiting for 2 to 3 months of intensive work, due to the fact that “the tool is almost ready”. erstwhile they complete the project, their positions will be eliminated. However, he promised that he would not leave them on the ice – everyone could number on a session with a professional advisor, aid with the improvement of a CV and professional profile on LinkedIn, and a gathering with a scientist to support them in the "change process".
Everyone besides received a promise of a six-month briefing, but counted “from now on”. This meant that the sooner they finished, the more months they would get paid without having to work. That was expected to motivate them. However, it caused another friend to say goodbye to a tiny band. So there was more work to do due to the fact that there was no plan to hire anyone so briefly. An angry squad forced Victor to talk to the boss.
– I went into his office and told him that we couldn't finish the task in a smaller way. He either needs to hire individual to aid him, or he needs to extend the briefing.
In response, he heard his boss say that they were active in something special. [...]
[...] A fewer weeks after talking to Chief Victor, he was fired for insubordination due to the fact that he did not accept the unfair treatment of himself and his associates. And even though he lost his chance at briefing, he felt relief – but besides fear. Although he did not have many obligations, he besides had besides many savings. He had to get a occupation fast. There were quite a few copywriters in the marketplace who needed classes. After a week, he got 2 answers on hundreds of applications sent.
– I was devastated. I kept proceeding and reading that we have the lowest unemployment in history, deficiency of hands to work. But unfortunately not mine.
So he started looking for a occupation as an interpreter. He thought possibly he'd hook up in this business full-time. In the end, publications print many books, and many of them are English translations. It shortly turned out that the assignments he could undertake in harmony with himself, that is, taking care of the smallest detail, were almost gone.
– A translation of a fewer hundred-page book is at least a fewer months of work for the translator. This is simply a minute for the show. It's cheaper, but better? For a profit-counting company – yes, for a reader fed with cardboard – no.
Today Victor is active in marketing and promotion in 1 of the pharmaceutical companies. He writes his own fresh after hours. No AI.

[*] For simplicity in the text, however, I usage this word (although in the context of ChataGPT and its like 1 should talk about generic artificial intelligence).
